Archaeologist decyphers symbols
|
A group of archaeologists was excavating in Israel when they came upon a
cave. Written across the wall of the cave were the following symbols, in
this order:
a woman - a donkey - a shovel - a fish - a Star of David
Deciding that this was a unique find and that the writings were at least
three thousand years old, they chopped out the piece of stone and had it
brought to the museum where archaeologists from all over the world came
to study the ancient symbols. After months of conferences to discuss the
meaning of the markings, a huge meeting was held to deliver their
findings.
The president of the society stood up and pointed at the first drawing
and said:
"This is a woman. We can judge that this race was family oriented and
held women in high esteem.
To the right of the woman is a donkey. So, they were smart enough to
have animals help them till the soil.
To the right of the woman is a shovel of some sort. This means they had
tools to help them dig in the earth to plant and grow food.
To the right of the shovel is a fish. This means that if a famine had
hit the earth and the food didn't grow, they would take to the sea for
food.
The last symbol appears to be the Star of David, which obviously means
that they were Hebrews."
The audience was amazed and applauded enthusiastically.
Then from the back of the room, a little old man stood and shouted:
"Idiots! Don't you know anything? You read it completely wrong! Hebrew
isn't read from left to right, it's read from right to left! What it
really says is "Holy Mackerel, dig the ass on that woman!"
