A boneheaded way to promote public transit
** Public transit shuts down to honor drivers **
(Pacific Daily News, Guam; June 1996) The island's public transit
system will shut down today as part of this week's efforts to make
people more aware of public transit.
A ceremony to recognize drivers and employees will be held at
1 p.m. today at the mass transit compound across from the Agana
public swimming pool.
Mass transit spokeswoman Ramona Perez said that the ceremony
ends the week-long celebration of "Try Transit Week."
"This is an annual event by the American Transit Association," Perez
said. "We concentrate on how to make the public aware of the public
Perez said that the public perception of mass transit is not

According to Perez, mass transit buses and the mass transit
office will be closed for today's ceremony. Transit officials said
employees will get half of the day off, but will be paid for a full
day of work.
Normal operations will resume tomorrow, Perez said.
