{"id":158,"date":"2001-04-06T10:27:00","date_gmt":"2001-04-06T18:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.netjeff.com\/wp\/?p=158"},"modified":"2001-04-06T10:27:00","modified_gmt":"2001-04-06T18:27:00","slug":"study-few-users-reject-cookies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.netjeff.com\/wp\/?p=158","title":{"rendered":"Study: Few users reject cookies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.computeruser.com\/news\/01\/04\/05\/news17.html\">study by Web Side Story<\/a> has found that only 7 out of 1000 Internet surfers reject or block cookies.<\/p>\n<p>This<br \/>\nquote from Jason Catlett of the Junkbusters.com was amusing: \"&#8230;<br \/>\nThere's still the fact that when cookies are explained to [computer<br \/>\nusers], they do not like them.\" I'm sure that statement is true given<br \/>\nthe way Mr. Catlett probably explains cookies.<\/p>\n<p>Browser cookies<br \/>\nare like sharp kitchen knives: most of the time they do a useful job,<br \/>\nbut in the hands of the wrong person they can be use to harm others.<br \/>\nYou may also be tempted to compare cookies to guns and the adage, \"Guns<br \/>\ndon't kill people, people kill people.\" But that comparison is too<br \/>\nextreme: improper use of guns has enormous consequence, unlike cookies.<\/p>\n<p>And<br \/>\nthe fact that this study shows only 7 out of 1000 block cookies seems<br \/>\nto say to me that the general public regards cookies in the same<br \/>\ncategory as knives, not guns.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A study by Web Side Story has found that only 7 out of 1000 Internet surfers reject or block cookies.
